Tuesday Treasures: the League of S.T.E.A.M.

I love the Ghostbusters.

And I love steampunk stories and visuals.

So when I discovered Victorian-era, steam-powered ghost and monster hunters, I was entranced.

The League of S.T.E.A.M. (Supernatural and Troublesome Ectoplasmic Apparition Management) is a California-based performance art troupe that specializes in interactive entertainment.

In addition to bookings and live appearances, they have produced a series of web episodes of their adventures which are popular on YouTube and are also available for viewing on their own site, www.leagueofsteam.com.

In a St. Patrick's Day episode, the League attempts to capture a Leprechaun, with very entertaining results:

I delight in this kind of creativity, and it's very obvious in each episode or image you see that these talented individuals love what they do. The fun that they have comes through in every performance.

When supernatural entities are bothering you, whom shall you telegram?

Thanks for reading my ranting,

  1. Wow. I watched the Leprechaun video and enjoyed that one immensely. Youtube then suggested a few others and I watched a couple more, including "New Moon Vampire Hunt" which was amusing but also kinda pissed me off.

In that one they go to a location where a bunch of New Moon fans are hanging out looking to root out the vampire menace. Very amusing and such. Once of them is carrying a large wooden crucifix/stake which looks pretty formidable. What pissed me off was a group of girls following them and announcing loudly that "you've got the story wrong" and "they don't die from stakes".

I realize Twilight has really bastardized Vampire lore, but I didn't know she took away death by staking. I can accept them being out in sunlight (somewhat) and other variations, but to remove staking? That's just wrong.

And the girls who were following them didn't seem like they were playing along and such, it seemed like they really believed it. Are these books really going to be the source material of Vampiric lore against which all others will be compared by this generation? Pity.

  3. Rob, that's pretty cool. It looks like some time and effort went into that grandfather clock/proton pack.
I really need to go to ComiCon next year.

  4. That looks so cool, Brad! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check them out. Steampunk is so intriguing. I've been looking at putting some outfits together but I have no idea where I could wear them...besides conventions I can't afford.
